National school triathlon cancels ocean swim after death shark spotted

National school triathlon cancels ocean swim

Updated April 03, 2012 08:57:39
Organisers of a national school triathlon in Busselton say they have been forced to re-locate the ocean swim following a fatal shark attack and shark sighting.
Peter Kurmann, 33, was taken by a great white shark off Stratham beach on Saturday.
And, a shark was spotted close to Busselton jetty yesterday forcing the closure of some beaches.
Almost 800 students were set to swim around the jetty tomorrow.
School Sports WA's Peter Smith says the attack, as well as the shark sighting, made the decision easier.
"Obviously the decision to put the kids in the water would have been a big one and the groups involved, none were prepared to do that," he said.
