Great white filmed circling fishing boats off Kalbarri
The shark has reportedly been spotted circling crayfish boats from the town 600km north of Perth.
Wayne
Dewar, from Kalbarri Volunteer Marine Rescue managed to record footage
of the great white last Friday about 300m off shore.
Nine News played the footage to WA shark expert Hugh Edwards who confirmed it was almost certainly a great white.
"It's doing all the things that great whites do, completely without fear alongside the boat," he said.
Some
Kalbarri community members are calling for the great white to be killed
over safety fears for people out on boats and surfers in the popular
holiday spot.
But Mr Dewar said his group was not calling for the shark to be killed.

National school triathlon cancels ocean swim
Updated

Organisers of a national school triathlon in
Busselton say they have been forced to re-locate the ocean swim
following a fatal shark attack and shark sighting.
Peter Kurmann, 33, was taken by a great white shark off Stratham beach on Saturday. And, a shark was spotted close to Busselton jetty yesterday forcing the closure of some beaches.
Almost 800 students were set to swim around the jetty tomorrow.
School Sports WA's Peter Smith says the attack, as well as the shark sighting, made the decision easier.
"Obviously the decision to put the kids in the water would have been a big one and the groups involved, none were prepared to do that," he said.

Surfer eaten by a shark at a beach near Gracetown
Surfer dies after shark attack
A 31-year-old surfer has died after being attacked by a shark at a beach near Gracetown, south of Perth, this morning.
Police
say the man from Busselton, 50 kilometres north of Gracetown, was
surfing south of South Point when he was attacked about 8:15am WSDT.Local residents have told how they tried to resuscitate the man who had suffered horrific injuries.
Eddie Kilgallon was among a group of local residents who went to the man's aid and tried to revive him.
"We just kept on encouraging him," he said.
"We noticed that he had a wedding ring on, constantly reminding him of the people that do love him and we tried to give him their love."
Mr Kilgallon says the man's injuries were horrific.
"[The] back half of his leg was totally chomped. It looked like one bite. It looked like a big shark bite," he said.
It is understood the man was a father and worked in Western Australia's Goldfields.
Rob Alder says he was watching the surfer from his house and had been deciding whether to go for a surf himself when he saw the man lose his board and not come back up again.
Mr Alder says he rushed down to the beach with his friends and alerted a rescue crew.
He says they found the surfer washed up on rocks near South Point, lying unconscious with a huge gash to his leg.

How a Great White Pointer ate a man in waist deep water Cottesloe WA
The Science of Shark Attacks
- 6 Jan 2001
On the other side of the world on the west coast of Australia, a group of swimmers confrontation with a Great White revealed how selective a shark can be when choosing its prey. In Perth there is a local swimming group called the Pod. One of their members was businessman Ken Crew. The morning of November 6th 2000 started like any other. The 'pod' met on the beach for their usual 6.30am swim. At the end of the swim over a dozen of the members stood chest deep water. Then suddenly someone yelled 'Shark! Get out of the water!' The swimmers fled for their lives. The Great White caught Ken in its massive jaws. The shark had bitten off his right leg, slicing through a major artery. He'd bled to death in seconds. But how and why did the shark single out Ken Crew, in the middle of such a large group of swimmers?

A top surfer has been killed after a quick and brutal shark attack on the French-owned island of Reunion.
Schiller, who was a European team body boarding champion in 1995, was one of a large group surfing in the area when the attack happened.
Fellow surfers searched for the Frenchman's body but police later said it had been carried away by the waves.
"There were around 20 people in shallow water and about five surfers out deeper when it happened," a witness told a local news agency.

Shark kills bather yards from family beach
By Barbie Dutter in Sydney

A SWIMMER was killed yesterday in an attack by a 19ft great
white shark as more than 100 people looked on from one of Western
Australia's most popular family beaches.
Attacked: Kenneth Crew had his leg bitten off in waist-deep water |
Mr Crew, a businessman, whose leg was bitten off, was
brought ashore and died soon afterwards in the arms of a Catholic
priest, his friend Fr Brian Morrison. A second man was also attacked
after swimming out and punching the shark's body in an effort to save Mr
Crew. Dirk Avery, 52, received deep cuts to his right leg and foot.
Fr Morrison said: "I was in the cafe, and heard the shout,
'Shark attack'. I looked up and saw a very large fin and a man with
flailing arms. I raced to the beach and noticed a huge number of people
gathered. Some went out into the water - two in particular tried to push
the shark away - while others took hold of Ken and brought him to
shore.

A young surfer has been killed in a horrifying shark attack near a crowded beach in Western Australia.
Witnesses said the shark - believed to be a feared great white - came up beneath him, grabbed the man, aged in his early 20s, and pulled him below the surface.
The victim, who has yet to be named, was riding on a bodyboard - a cut-down version of a surfboard - when the attack occurred near Cape Naturaliste in the south west of Western Australia.

Fatal shark attack shocks Cottesloe community
KERRY O'BRIEN: That Melbourne Cup preview later in the program.
Shark attacks have become part of the Australian mythology.
White Pointers in particular are usually associated with remote beaches in the cold waters of the Southern Ocean.
But today that myth was well and truly shattered with a shocking attack on two men at Perth's Cottesloe beach.
The men were taking their usual early morning dip, planning their routine after-swim coffee, when the 4 metre shark attacked.
One man is dead, the other in hospital with injuries to his legs and feet, and the close-knit community of Cottesloe is in shock.
Jenelle Provost reports.
JOHN BAILEY, WITNESS: The shark was literally circling in tight symmetrical circles around its victim.
He was turning like this, with his hands out, trying to stop the shark.
Then he went limp.
As soon as he went limp, the shark changed its orbit and headed off towards the shore.
KIM GAMBLE, CAFE OWNER: Someone shouted, "Shark attack!"
And I just sort of thought, "Someone's joking."
I turned around and looked out to the water and then there's this huge amount of blood in the water and then saw the shark just sort of rolling with its tail and fin and pushing this person towards the north and then it sort of seemed to let go.

Tourist children nearly eaten by Shark in Western Australia
Shark victim told others 'get the hell out'
PHOEBE WEARNE and NICK SAS, The West Australian

A tour guide has told how he yelled at two young children to
get out of the water as he was attacked by a 3m tiger shark at Coral Bay
yesterday.
Dave Pickering, 26, who works for Coral Bay Eco Tours, last night told of his "scary" ordeal in which he punched the shark in self-defence.
He was hosting a group of four tourists at the popular snorkelling spot known as The Lagoon, 500m offshore, when the shark attacked about 11am.
At Jandakot Airport last night, Mr Pickering said his arm had been pouring blood everywhere following the attack and he believed the shark had bitten through to the bone.
"I was swimming with my arms down by my side and I turned around to make sure everyone was still alive in the water and turned around and, boom, there he was," Mr Pickering said.

Push for ocean pools to keep swimmers safe from shark attack in WA

Push for ocean pools to keep swimmers safe
DANIEL EMERSON, The West Australian
Updated October 26, 2011, 2:30 am
The Barnett Government should spend $15 million on three ocean pools - one at Cottesloe which is in the concept phase - to give people a shark-free saltwater swimming option, the Opposition says.
Shadow fisheries minister Jon Ford said three fatal shark attacks in WA in seven weeks prompted Labor to come up with a proposal of "practical engineering solutions" to safeguard swimmers.
It proposed two ocean pools in Perth at Cottesloe and a northern beach and one in regional WA, probably Middleton Beach, Albany. It was also exploring the feasibility of "beach enclosures" made from the metal mesh used in aquaculture.
The mesh, typically 12cm rings interconnected like chain mail suspended from a cable attached to buoys, would be a barrier rather than a net catching sea life, Mr Ford said.
He said 26 pools built into the rocky NSW coast were immensely popular and if pilot pools in WA were popular, more should be built.
"The only guarantee (against sharks) is if you stop the interaction between the marine environment and people," he said.
Opposition Leader Eric Ripper said the March 2013 State poll was too far away to make the proposal an ALP election promise.
But he said Labor would build the pools today if it could and would build them if they won the next election if current economic conditions prevailed.

Capes marine park announced in Yallingup
- ROB BENNETT
28 Mar, 2012 11:53 AM
Busselton Mail
Mr Marmion said the only section of the jetty, at the tip, where the shire already had a fishing exclusion zone, would be included in the new marine park.
He said important marine habitats and some of the South-West’s top surfing locations would be preserved and protected under the new marine park to be created by the State Government.
The marine park will include the waters between Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin.
It will balance both recreational pursuits and protect important marine life by classifying areas into different zones.
“The creation of this marine park will help conserve one of Western Australia’s most remarkable marine areas,” Mr Barnett said.
“It is also one of the State’s most popular tourism destinations – the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park adjoining the marine park receives more than two million visits annually, and is the most popular national park in WA.
“As I have previously said, arguably the most important benefit of this period of economic growth is to ensure the protection of the State’s unique environment for future generations.

A popular Western Australian beach remains closed after
33-year-old Peter Kurmann was attacked and killed by a shark on
Saturday morning.
Police say Mr Kurmann, from the town of Vasse,
near Busselton, had anchored his boat about 1.7 kilometres off Stratham
Beach and was diving for crayfish with his brother when he was attacked
just after 9:00am (AWST).The shark is believed to be a four-metre great white, and a patrol plane has spotted a similar sized shark south of the attack site, about 600 metres offshore.
Tony Cappelluti from the Department of Fisheries says a boat has gone to the area.
"We will attempt to take it. Whether we destroy it is an issue that'll be decided at the time by the relevant people able to give that order," he said.
Mr Kurmann's body was brought to shore two hours after the attack, along with the boat he and his brother had been using.
His brother, Gian, says his family has lost a son, a brother, a husband and a wonderful father.
It is the fourth fatal shark in Western Australia in seven months.
Bodyboarder Kyle Burden, 21, was killed in Bunker Bay in September, while 64-year-old Bryn Martin disappeared off Perth's Cottesloe Beach in October. It is presumed he was taken by a shark.
Less than two weeks after that, 32-year-old George Wainwright was killed by a shark off Rottnest Island.
The deaths prompted the State Government to spend millions of dollars on initiatives aimed at preventing further attacks.
Authorities say there is no evidence shark numbers are increasing.
Tina Thorne from the Government's Shark Response Unit says more research is needed.
"What we'd like to do is put some solid science behind some of those theories and prove them or disprove them," she said.

The Globalist Marine No Fishing Agenda
The Globalist Marine Agenda

There is a concerted effort by the United Nations and our own federal government, to cut off recreational and commercial fisherman from sea fisheries around Australia. The mechanism for excluding fisherman, as well as other critical commercial enterprises (gas, oil and other natural resources), is the legislative creation of marine parks, justified under a cloak of green rhetoric.
Marine
Parks are essentially the marine equivalent of terrestrial national
parks, meaning areas where government legislation prohibits various
types of human activity and sometimes all human activity. They are a
manifestation of environmentalist ideology, which proclaims that humans
must be incrementally cut-off from natural resources.
Serious efforts to thrust the marine-specific environmentalist agenda upon nation states can be traced back to the League of Nations Conference for the Codification of International Law which took place from the 13th of March to the 12th
of April in 1930. At that conference, international maritime law was on
the agenda and although there was a failure to reach agreement, one of
the items on the agenda was ‘conservation of living resources’, despite
the lack of scientific evidence suggesting any shortage. [1]
